A Wine Filled Holiday Gift

Give the gift of wine this holiday season

Wine is the perfect holiday gift for friends, family and co-workers or even yourself (is it wrong to buy yourself a gift and have it come from “Santa”?). While a bottle of wine is a great gift by itself, try kicking it up a notch by putting together an entire themed package including wine accessories (wine keys, vinturi aerator, etc) or local cheeses and other food products, the options are limitless.

Looking to make it even easier this holiday season? Area wineries have pulled together special gift packs of wine that vary in price and include an array of bottles and other items (discount are also often applied when buying wine in a pack). We’ve pulled together some of the most intriguing gift packs from Washington wineries.

Wine Gifts We Recommend This Week:

Mercer Estates’ Blinded by the Light – $95
The Yakima Valley winery offers an array of two and three bottle gift packs but it was their “Blinded by the Light,” featuring three wines from Mercer Estates that caught our attention. The bottles in the pack remain a mystery until after you taste them. The winery includes sealed envelopes that reveal the identity of the wines and a Mercer Estates wine key (the prize for the person who correctly identifies all three). Game night in the neighborhood will never be the same.

Three River Winery Collector’s Vertical Gift Pack – $195
For the wine enthusiast in your life a vertical of a particular wine is the ideal gift as it allows for comparison and study (an oeneophile’s dream!) from vintage to vintage. Walla Walla’s Three River’s Winery offers a three pack of their Svelte Bordeaux blend from each of the vintage they have produced (2006, 2007 and 2008). The pack also includes a bonus vinturi aerator as an added bonus. This pack is in quick demand (according to the winery’s website there are only three packs available in inventory).

Lopez Island Vineyard’s Winemaker’s Favorite’s of 2011 – $65
Attending a special dinner this holiday season and are in charge of bring the wine? Pick up this three bottle pack from the Puget Sound’s Lopez Island Vineyards that will carry you from appetizers to dessert with one bottle of 2010 Madeliene Angevine, 2006 Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon and Raspberry wine (Merlot can be substituted for the Cabernet Sauvignon in the pack, bringing the price to $50). Order this week and save on shipping by picking up your gift pack at the Ballard Farmer’s Market Saturday, 12/14.
