Big changes are in store for the next Auction of Washington Wines event (celebrating 25 years in 2012). It’s on our calendar (and we want to make sure it’s on yours too – August 16-18, 2012).
In celebration of the event’s silver anniversary here’s what we’re drinking this week:
2008 Betz Family Pere de Famille – $60
Winemaker Bob Betz (this year’s Auction co-chair) is the godfather of winemaking in Washington state. His 2008 Pere de Famille describes Washington Cabernet Sauvignon to a ‘T’ with dark fruits and cherry flavors with toasted vanilla hints.
2009 Chateau Ste. Michelle Indian Wells Merlot – $18
Chateau Ste Michelle serves as the site for two Auction event, the Picnic and Barrel Auction and the Wine Gala. The winery produces many labels but their new world style Indian Wells series is always a winner. The current release of merlot is jammy with ripe berry fruit and would pair well with pasta in a rich tomato sauce.
2009 Covey Run Sauvignon Blanc – $9
Inspiration for the Auction’s fund run (taking place Saturday morning before the Wine Gala), Covey Run is a long standing winery in Washington state. Their 2009 Sauvignon Blanc is has tropical aromas and flavors with a clean, crisp finish. Value priced, it’s a go-to for everyday white wines.
